Reproductive Health

PrEP is an essential component of HIV prevention and is an integral part of reproductive health care. Similarly, the sexual and reproductive health of patients should be acknowledged and addressed along with HIV prevention services.

Comprehensive, scientifically-based reproductive health care services through the lifespan are essential to ensuring that people can live healthy and productive lives. Reproductive health services can include:

  • Birth control services

  • Pelvic and breast exams

  • Cancer screenings

  • Menstruation and menopause services

  • Infertility services

  • Miscarriage management

  • Pregnancy termination (abortion)

  • Prenatal care

  • STD screening and treatment

  • HIV prevention and screening

  • Addressing pain with sex

  • Sexual health education and counseling

Resources around reproductive health can be found here:

  • The CDC’s Division of Reproductive Health has information for patients and providers, practice recommendations, data and statistical background, and provider training on reproductive health, maternal health, and infant health.

  • The Reproductive Health Access Project (RHAP) works with primary care providers to integrate abortion, contraception, and miscarriage care into primary care practices and offers provider resources and trainings.

  • The National Coalition for Sexual Health (NCSH) is a coalition group that has developed a “Compendium of Sexual & Reproductive Health Resources for Healthcare Providers” that is intended to support primary care providers and includes webinars and online trainings, toolkits and implementation guides, clinical tools and curricula.
