Planning Roadmap
The PrEP Program Planning Roadmap is a list of activities to guide clinics and help them monitor the process of building or enhancing their PrEP Program. It should be used in concert with the PrEP Program Builder.
How does the Planning Roadmap work?
The Planning Roadmap defines a set of 40+ activities that clinics can complete to support their progress across eight stages of implementation. Following these activities will prompt clinics to proceed in a structured way, from contemplating whether PrEP is a good fit for their clinic population to achieving complete integration into clinical services. Implementation research suggests that completing more activities may increase the likelihood of successfully launching and sustaining new interventions in clinics.
How was the Roadmap developed?
The Planning Roadmap is an adaptation of the Stages of Implementation Completion® (SIC) tool, originally developed by Lisa Saldana, PhD and team with funding from the National Institute of Mental Health. The SIC documents “what it takes” to implement evidence-based practices. BLUPrInt partnered with Dr. Saldana and clinical partners across the United States to create a PrEP-specific SIC that accurately captures the PrEP implementation process in diverse clinical settings.
How can I use it?
Whether you are introducing PrEP for the first time, working to routinize PrEP in your clinical services, or getting ready to add new formulations to your existing PrEP program (eg injectable PrEP or the PrEP vaginal ring), you can use the Planning Roadmap in one of two ways:
On your own.
- Use the list of activities as a roadmap to plan and execute your implementation process. Complete as many of the activities as you feel are relevant to your site.
- Tell us what you think by emailing us at bluprint@hunter.cuny.edu. Did the activities resonate with your implementation process? Were there additional resources that would have helped you?
With support from our team.
- Join our community of practice by emailing us at bluprint@hunter.cuny.edu. Together we’ll document your implementation process and crystalize best practices on how to introduce PrEP into clinical services.
- With your help we can identify which activities are most important to successful introduction and test the hypothesis that completing a higher proportion of activities leads to greater probability of sustained integration of PrEP into clinical services.
